Elizabeth Marabwa

Chief Director, Department of Energy

Elizabeth Marabwa is a Chief Director in the Department of Energy. Elizabeth has spent most of her career in government but has also had exposure to consulting and academia.

For the last 20 years she has been involved in many aspects of energy on South Africa from a regulatory and policy point of view and across all forms of energy including liquid fuels, gas and electricity. Elizabeth has also had significant exposure to the international energy arena, and has worked with the IEA, SADC, other governments in Africa and world-wide as well as funders and financial institutions.

She is also a reviewer of theWorld Energy Outlook published by the International Energy Agency and has provided expert advice on and comments on the annual World Energy Outlook and chaired sessions on the special report on Africa Energy Outlook- first lEA Special Publication on Africa.

Elizabeth’s qualifications include a MA in economics from the University of Zimbabwe, a BA honours in economics and a MA in Commerce both fromWITS. She has also studied overseas and holds a Certificate in Utility Regulation and Strategy from the University of Florida and Certificate in Petroleum Policy and Management from Petrad in Norway. She is also a qualified project manager.
